The Rules of EVE

There a few basic rules, when it comes to EVE Online. If you don’t at least understand them, they’ll bite you.

  1. Don’t fly it, if you can’t afford to lose it.
  2. You consent to PvP the moment you click the Undock button.
  3. If it seems too good to be true, it isn’t true.
  4. Trust No-one
  5. Single Tank type.
  6. Don’t mix weapon types.
  7. Don’t fly it, if you can’t afford to lose it.
  8. Don’t carry anything expensive in a T1 Industrial
  9. At least do a google search on a corp you’re going to pay 500 million to join.
  10. Minerals you mine are not free.
  11. Most of the rules have exceptions.

 

Explanations:

  1. Pretty simple really. The moment you un-dock, you’re open to being blown up. Even in High-Sec space.
  2. Lifted the wording from @PoeticStanziel Random internet person. People can, and will, kill you where ever you are, for whatever reason they feel like. Including to annoy you.
  3. Scams abound, from margin trading scams, to investment scams, to contract scams, to people wanting to use the trade window to avoid taxes (psst. it’s a scam.)
  4. Aliens have already abducted you. Oh, wait, that’s the X-Files. ~Still, people will scam you. There are few consequences which can be enforced on people, so you never know when a good thing will turn sour.
  5. Don’t shield and armour tank a ship. All you’re doing is crippling the rest of your fit. People will laugh at your poor fit.
  6. Auto-cannons and Missiles are fine, Auto-cannon and Artillery aren’t; don’t mix within a class. Try to keep within the same size and meta rating too. if you don’t, once more, people will laugh at your poor fit.
  7. It’s important enough to mention multiple times.
  8. Or any other small cheap ship. People will scan you. People will blow you up with an inexpensive thrasher and steal everything that drops. Then laugh at you. Don’t be the guy that loses 34 plex in an Ibis.
  9. Linked to 4. Believe it or not, there are still people being scammed into giving large quantities of ISK over, when the scam is /well/ documented all over the Web. Just search for the corpname and recruitment scam.
  10. Everything has a value. Even the minerals you mine. Don’t take something you could sell on the market for 10 isk, then make something with it, and sell it for 9. That’s just crazy. Value your products like you were buying the minerals on the market. And if you can’t make a profit on something doing that? Make something else.
  11. If you have to ask if breaking one of the rules is a good idea, it probably isn’t. If you don’t have to ask, and know it is a good idea, you’re either an idiot, or you have a clue what you’re doing. Make sure to be the latter.
